CHENNAI: Senior BJP leader L K Advani and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday called on the family members of BJP national executive committee member Sukumaran Nambiar, who died here last week, and offered their condolences.

Advani and Modi visited Sukumaran’s residence at Gopalapuram in the city at 6 pm, and were with his family members for about 10 minutes.

Sukumaran’s brother Mohan told mediapersons that the two leaders expressed their heartfelt condolences over the sudden demise of Sukumaran and recalled his devotion to the works of the BJP. Sukumaran’s mother Rukmani, his wife Lakshmi, and her two sons Siddharth and Bharath, sister Sneha and their family members were present during the visit of BJP leaders.

Advani and Modi came there amid tight security cover. Large number of police personnel were on bandobust duty around the residence of Sukumaran Nambiar. Sukumaran had earlier served as treasurer of the BJP at the national level and was the son of the iconic yesteryear Tamil actor M N Nambiar.

BJP State unit president Pon Radhakrisnan and party spokesman Muralidhara Rao accompanied Advani and Modi.
