CHENNAI: The AIADMK government today allotted Rs 8.90 crore towards the renovation of the memorials of two former Chief Ministers of the state, including the party's founder.

Funds to the tune of Rs 1.20 crore and Rs 4.30 crore were allotted to renovate the memorials of AIADMK leaders and former Chief Ministers C N Annadurai and M G Ramachandran respectively, an official release said.

While Annadurai's memorial will be renovated to sport a new look, additional construction will be undertaken at the memorial of Ramachandran, AIADMK's founder, at a cost of Rs 3.40 crore besides renovation.

An outer wall and a new front facade will be constructed at Ramachandran's memorial, the release said.

The state government announced the renovation work during the discussion on demands for grants in the Assembly in August last year.

The memorials are located adjacent to each other in Anna Square near Marina Beach here.
