TIRUCHY: Sri Siva Shakthi Peedam, a temple based in Muthukalaipatti, near Rasipuram, that showcased a six-foot simhasanam or mount, encased with 25,000 Rudraksha beads in the city for the last three days, concluded, on Monday.
According to RU Meganathan, founder, Sri Siva Shakthi Peedam, the other attributes associated with Lord Shiva such as the Trident, Drum, palm leaves and deer skin, are also placed aside. A Meenakshi idol and a nagalingam made of komaedhagam also adorn the simhasanam. The six-foot simhasanam is made of teak and the Rudraksha beads sourced from Nepal.
“The Rudraksha beads are considered to be the eyes of Lord Shiva and is believed to be the most potent manifestation of the Cosmic Force. Hence Rudraksha is the object of veneration and also the source to reach the higher self. Rudraksha is often believed to symbolise the link between the earth and the heaven,” said Meganathan The simhasanam took six months to be completed and every religious ritual was followed on par with the consecration of any temple, he explained. “The base of the simhasanam has been spread with herbs, navaratnam, navapasanam, navadhanyam, navagundumani, gold and silver” said Meganathan.
There are clefts called ‘Mukhi’ on the surface of the beads and this simhasanam comprises mostly of ‘Pancha Mukhi.’ These beads are the seeds of the Rudraksha fruit obtained from Rudraksha trees. The Rudraksha tree is known as Utrasum Bead Tree in English.
