VELLORE: Four Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) workers were killed on Wednesday when the tractor trailer in which they were travelling, overturned near Kezhil Veeranam in the district.

The dead were identified as Mohan (47) of Ennore in Chennai, Nagendran ((45) of Govindacherikuppam near Walajapet, Sivalingam (54) of Balakrishnapuram near Arakkonam and Gopal (47) of Oozhukurkuppam, all employees of the TNEB sub-station at Banavaram. They were transporting 12 cement poles in the trailer from Kaveripakkam to Banavaram, to replace damaged ones.

The accident took place near Kezhil Veeranam at about 12.30 pm on Wednesday when the hook linking the tractor with the trailer gave way due to heavy load. In the impact, the trailer overturned, killing Mohan, Nagendran and Sivalingam on the spot. Gopal succumbed to injuries at the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital later in the day, police said.

Kamaraj (45), Rajendran (42), Ramachandran (42) and Vinayagamurthy (34), who sustained injuries in the accident, have been admitted to the Government Hospital in Walajapet,  police said.

The police registered a case against the tractor driver Srinivasan on charges of rash and negligent driving and arrested him.
