‘Goondas Act for land grab offenders’

Express News Service

The government is moving to book land grabbing offenders in about five cases under the Goondas Act, District Collector S B Deepak Kumar said here on Friday.

Speaking at a public interface meeting convened here as part of the Vigilance Awareness Week, Kumar said the Land Grabbing Cell functioning in the Revenue and Disaster Management departments was considering several complaints. The cases were reviewed with senior superintendent of police following which, it was decided to book the offenders under the Goondas Act.

The cases in question displayed a clear attempt at grabbing someone else’s land by forging documents and multiple sales of the same property. Further details were being collected to initiate proceedings against offenders under the Prevention of Anti-social Activities clause in the Goondas Act, Kumar said.
