The Christian Medical College hospital director Dr Sunil Chandy on Friday inaugurated and dedicated a versatile chemistry analyser machine to the diagnostic laboratory facility of the hospital here.
According to Dr R Selvakumar, Head of Department of bio-chemistry, the advanced auto analyser Cobas 8,000 is made by Switzerland-based pharma major Roche and CMC is the first to install the machine in the country.
The analyser can produce 2,900 individual chemistry results per hour and can perform over 60 different chemistry tests at a time with a very small volume of patient’s serum sample, some of the tests require only 2-3 microlitres per test, using very small volume of reagents (120 micro litres as against the conventional machines that consumed around 180 microlitres), he added.
The machine has many innovative design elements and customisable modules to allow on-site expandability and unrestricted sample flow and intelligent sample routing.
The modular analyser significantly improves sample turnaround time and efficiently addresses peak demands. High speed, intelligent sample dynamics and workflow improvements further enhance productivity and efficiency for high workload laboratories.
Currently around 16,000 to 18,000 tests were being conducted at the biochemistry lab per day at CMC and with the help of this machine, the time taken for lab tests could be considerably reduced while enhancing their accuracy.
Lance Little from Roche Singapore, who is the Asia- Pacific General Manager was also present during the inauguration ceremony.
