Send resignation letter in correct format: Speaker to Yanam MLA

Express News Service

Speaker V Sabapathy on Thursday sent back the faxed resignation letter of Yanam MLA Malladi Krishna Rao, neither accepting nor rejecting it.

Assembly secretary R Anbazhagan, on behalf of the Speaker, pointed out that since the faxed letter was not in the prescribed format it was returned to be re-submitted in the correct format, sources said, adding that a copy of the proper format was also enclosed along with the letter and sent through speed post to the Congress MLA.

The decision to send back the letter was taken after the MLA did not appear in person before the Speaker and remained unreachable.

The letter, faxed by Rao from New Delhi, was not as per the rules prescribed under sub-rule (6) of 261 of Rules of Procedure and Conduct of Business of the Pondicherry Legislative Assembly, 1996. The rule states that the letter should be handwritten and signed by the MLA. There is no need to mention the reason for resignation as per the rule.

Rao, however, cited health as the reason for putting in his papers. Rao had earlier put forth seven demands before the government threatening to resign if they were not met before October 2.
