Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) volunteers on Thursday observed a fast near Venkatasubba Reddair statue seeking to operationalize the defunct state owned Anglo-French Textile (AFT) Mills.

The mill workers were led by Dr M A S Subramanian, DMK convener, and Rasavelu, vice-president of the DMK trade union wing. Over 100 volunteers, including those from the youth wing, participated in the agitation.

Dr Subramanian asked the centre to release funds sought by the territorial administration to revive and modernize the mill. He blamed CM N Rangasamy and Union Minister V Narayanasamy, for not taking adequate steps for making the mill functional. He said the political tussle between Rangasamy and Congress leaders, including Narayanasamy, was affecting the mill workers.
