Five techies from Tamil Nadu died in Malaysia, when the car they were in fell into a ditch while returning from a marriage, on Sunday evening.

According to family sources, D Dharmesh Ponneri, Anand Meenakshisundaram, Ragunathan, Suresh Karuppanan and Vijay Karthik died after their speeding car went out of control and fell into a ditch on the north-south expressway in Malaysia near Senawang-Pedas at 4.30 pm local time. They were returning to Singapore after attending the marriage of their colleague. The deceased were working with Singapore Technologies Kinetics Limited.

Sources said the driver lost control of the speeding car, which swerved off the road and plunged into a ravine. The car tumbled a few times wrecking the roof.

Dharmesh Ponneri, Anand Meenakshisundaram, Ragunathan and Suresh Karuppanan were thrown out of the car and died on the spot, while a grievously injured Vijay Karthik was rushed to Tuanku Jaafar Seremban Hospital where he died.

Speaking to Express, Devakumar, a police inspector and father of Dharmesh, said he came to know about the accident through his son’s friends. “I placed a request with the Indian Embassy to process the formalities so that the body can be brought back. I am hoping that the hearse will be flown out of Singapore by Tuesday afternoon,” he said.
