Achari said, “As many as 41 schools — 27 elementary schools, 13 middle schools and one high school were identified in the newly added areas.”

He said the local body along with the district administration had sent several notices to the concerned Village Administrative Officers, demanding them to officially handover the schools to the Corporation.

However, the officials of the Vellore, Anaicut and Katpadi Panchayat Unions that encompassed the newly added areas, delayed action.

Suriya Achari said, “The schools were handed over to the Corporation for amelioration as the civic body had been receiving complaints regarding drinking water and poor sanitation at the schools.”

With the addition of 41 schools, there are totally 79 schools in the Newly Integrated Vellore Corporation limit, he said.
