AIADMK State secretary A Anbazhagan MLA on Saturday sought dismissal of DMK district secretary of Karaikal and MLA A M H Nazeem for attempting to tamper with Karaikal gang-rape case.
Addressing a press conference here, Anbazhagan claimed that Nazeem had attempted to convert the gang-rape case into a case of prostitution by asking the police to verify the character of the girl before filing an FIR and shield the partymen accused in the case.
The DMK leader in an interview to a tv channel tried to cast aspersions on the character of the victim even before the investigations are over, which amounts to disrespect of women, he said.
However, Nazeem had denied pressuring any police official against registering a case against the accused. “I have not indulged in any character assassination but only expressed what the police had told me and not given my opinion. What I said was misrepresented. The accused are not members of DMK either,” Nazeem said.
