Nursing student jumps from seventh floor of hostel, dies

A second year student of the College of Nursing of Christian Medical College (CMC) here allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the seventh floor of the hostel on Friday.

A second year student of the College of Nursing of Christian Medical College (CMC) here allegedly committed suicide by jumping from the seventh floor of the hostel on Friday.

The deceased was identified as Pavithra, daughter of Balu and resident of Thorapadi, who was pursuing BSc Nursing at the college. She jumped from the seventh floor of the hostel, situated on the college premises around 1.30 pm.

She was soon shifted to the CMC Hospital for treatment, where she succumbed to injuries at 7 pm, said inspector P Veerappan the investigation officer of the case.

Pavithra’s uncle who is an employee in the same hospital had seen her last in the noon and claimed that she was in an absolutely normal state of mind, the officer said.

Police are also probing other angles to see if there was any case of ragging or harassment on the girl. The girl’s father lodged a complaint stating that she had accidentally fallen from the staircase of the college. A case has been registered under Section 174 of CrPC.

The body was sent for post-mortem to the Government Medical College Hospital.
