Efforts on to include Rameswaram temple in UNESCO list

The Centre is taking steps to ensure that the famous Rameswaram temple and Ranganathaswamy temple at Srirangam are included in UNESCO's list of Heritage sites, Union Social Justice Minister Kumari Selja said here today.

"Efforts are continuing on to bring the famous Rameswaram temple and Ranganathaswamy temple in UNESCO's list of heritage sites and the process will take four or five years," she said.

The Minister noted that the Rameswaram temple needed better security and other facilities

On the poverty line estimates, the minister said government assistance to the poor is now being given on the basis of rough estimates and more help would be offered to them once the exact number of those living Below Poverty Line was arrived at.
