Damage to Thevar statue triggers stir

Followers of Muthuramanlingam Thevar staged a protest on Thursday condemning the damage to a Thevar statue near Usilampatti.

As a result, vehicle movement was affected for nearly five hours on Elumalai-Usilampatti main road.

Sources said that the driver of the TNSTC bus had accidentally hit the basement of a Thevar statue at Kodangi Naickan Patti near Usilampatti on Wednesday.

Following the incident, members of Bharathiya Forward bloc (Vallarasu Branch) (BFBV) staged road roko on Elumalai - Usilampatti main road and damaged the bus the same day.

In this connection, the police have already booked cases against seven persons and arrested Suresh, Bose, Agni on Wednesday.

However, the supporters withdrew their protest after officials from TNSTC and revenue department promised to repair the damaged basement of the statue.
