The Principal District and Sessions Court, Vellore, on Monday sentenced two notorious rowdies to life imprisonment for murdering the PRO of Christian Medical College Hospital (CMCH) John Sehar (45) three years ago. Three others accused in the case were acquitted for want of evidence.
On hearing the case, Principal District Judge S Pandian awarded life imprisonment for Maha alias Mahalingam (30) of Sathuvachari and Appu alias Rajendran (24) of Kilithanpattarai for murdering John Sehar on March 16, 2009.
The judge also slapped a fine of `10,500 on each of them. The judge acquitted Babu and Jaggan (22) of Sathuvachari and Pallu Prakash (alias) Prakasam (29) of Thottapalayam, said public prosecutor B Senguttuvan.
Police said Babu (35), the owner of Babu Ambulance Service, fleeced patients of CMC Hospital, and Segar, after receiving several complaints, had cancelled the permit for Babu to operate for patients of the hospital.
Upset over this, Babu decided to kill Segar. He engaged Maha and his associates Pallu, Appu and Jaggan to carry out the murder. “Babu paid an advance of `15,000 for the job to be carried out,” said Senguttuvan.
Maha and Appu followed Segar, and Maha stabbed him. Segar was taken to Christian Medical College Hospital, where he died.
Meanwhile, after the sentencing on Monday, associates of the two accused gathered in large numbers on the premises of the court complex and threatened media persons when they tried to take photographs of the duo.
