JIPMER will introduce ostomy care services on Ostomy Day, which  falls on November 16. A new out patient clinic and ostomy clinic will also be opened in the Superspeciality block, said Dr Biju Pottakkat, assistant professor, Department of Surgical Gastroenterology, JIPMER.

A trained ostomy therapy nurse will attend to the patients with stoma in outpatient clinic. She will take care of their needs, counsel and teach them how to cope up with stoma.

The clinic will function on every Monday and Friday. On an average, two to three patients are operated in a week and stoma pouches are fixed, said Dr Pottakkat.
