The Madras High Court has directed the Election Commission to look into the issue of some pictures in the lower kindergarten alphabet book under the new syllabus and pass appropriate orders.

The first bench comprising acting Chief Justice Satish K Agnihotri and M M Sundresh, after hearing the petition of Purachi Ganesh, said that the Election commission might consider the representation and pass appropriate orders in accordance with law.

The petitioner stated that the letter S in the textbook is denoted by a picture of the sun wearing dark glasses, which according to him resembles a political party leader of Tamil Nadu. He also pointed out the picture of a rising sun at the bottom of another page with a cock crowing. Stating that the pictures were contrary to law and justice, he sought the removal of pages 11 and 94 from the textbook.
