A day after an Income Tax Commissioner accused Congress Sivaganga candidate Karti Chidambaram of concealing information about his wealth, Union Minister P Chidambaram said the official has filed a baseless and false representation against his son.
S K Srivastava, Commissioner of Income Tax, New Delhi had made a representation against Karti before the Returning Officer in Madurai on Monday. When reporters asked about Srivastava’s charges, Chidambaram on Tuesday issued a handout detailing his position on the issue. Terming Srivastava as a “notorious litigator”, Chidambaram alleged that he was facing a number of cases in court.
Srivastava had filed an application on the same allegations before the CBI Court, Patiala House Court, but the court dismissed the application on December 3, 2011 as frivolous and mischievous and imposed a fine of `10,000 on him, the Union Minister claimed in the release.
Meanwhile, commenting on the BJP manifesto, the Union Minister said that it was an unabashed copy of schemes and ideas that were implemented by the Congress government over the past 10 years and they haven’t even bothered to acknowledge it.
He described the BJP’s promises on the issues of imposition of uniform civil code and abrogation of special status (Article 370) to Jammu and Kashmir as ‘dangerous thoughts’.
When reporters asked if there was any possibility of DMK chief M Karunanidhi joining the BJP as post-poll alliance, he said, ”I can’t say that he will support the BJP, but at the same time, I cannot rule out the possibility of DMK’s post-poll alliance with them.”
