VELLORE: Arakkonam Tamil Sangam president A Ganeshan staged a dharna in front of the Municipality office here on Friday, condemning the alleged irregularities in the Municipality.

Ganeshan, also the owner of a departmental store in Arakkonam, came to the Municipality office in the early hours of Friday and started his dharna without responding to anyone including the Municipality Commissioner. However, after sometime, he said,

“The Municipality is heading in a wrong direction and I have to convey this message to the Chief Minister Jayalalithaa.”

Municipality Commissioner Vijayakumar and ward Councillors tried to pacify Ganeshan but he refused to quit. Tension gripped the office and the Commissioner called the police to look into the matter. Before the police could reach, the 29th ward Councillor Duraisamy of the AIADMK pacified Ganeshan to call off the protest. Ganeshan said  he would write a letter to the Chief Minister regarding the irregularities.

Unconfirmed reports said that Ganeshan was constructing a building near Palanipettai. When he approached the Municipality regarding tax issues, some officials had demanded a bribe from him and this had led to him staging the dharna.
