Jaggery for Aravana Prasadam Found Unfit

Express News Service

SABARIMALA: Two lorry loads of jaggery, having an aggregate quantity of about 20 tonnes, brought from Maharashtra for the production of aravana prasadam at Lord Ayyappa temple were found unfit for use by Food Safety Control personnel at Pampa on Wednesday.

On a random check from the samples of jaggery, the Food Safety Control personnel detected water content above the permissible level.

Hence, the Food Safety authorities gave instructions to send back the two lorry loads to the respective factory. Samples were sent for test at the Regional Laboratory at Thiruvananthapuram, sources said. This will not affect aravana production as there is adequate stock of jaggery at the godowns at Pampa and Sannidhanam, sources said.
