VELLORE: The district police have launched an investigation to nab the persons who produced fake high court orders permitting music and dance programmes (natyanjali) as part of a temple festival in Madhanancherry village near Vaniyambadi on Thursday night.

Sources said that the villagers of Madhanancherry sought police permission to conduct a dance programme during the two-day village temple festival.

However, the police denied permission as the performance was believed to be raunchy and directed the villagers to approach the court. In the meantime, a music troupe approached the villagers and promised that they would obtain a court order to hold the programme. Believing them, the villagers had paid Rs 10,000 to the music troupe to get a court order in their favour.

On Thursday night, a music programme was organised by the caste Hindus in the village, while Dalits organised another one near their colony. This led to tension between the two communities.

On information, police rushed to the spot and tried to bring the situation under control. However, they were in for a shock when people of both communities showed them the HC orders permitting them to conduct the programme.

Upon inquiry, the villagers divulged that the music troupe had helped them to obtain the orders. Further inquiry revealed that the orders were fake. In this connection, the police picked up two persons for inquiry.

“The fake court order had originated from Namakkal district and many are involved in this racket,” said a senior police official on condition of anonymity.

He further said a team of police had been dispatched to Namakkal district to arrest those involved in the fake court order racket.
