Prawn Farm Set on Fire Over Land Row

TIRUCHY:  Previous enmity over the ownership of land led to a prawn farm near Mimisal in Pudukkottai district being burnt down on Sunday. The incident led to a group clash. Police booked 20 persons in connection with the incidents.

Police said fisherman Mathivanan, owned the prawn farm. Another fisherman Govindhan also claimed rights over the land.  There were several altercations on the issue between the two.

In once such problem, miscreants set fire to Mathivanan’s farm around 3 am on Sunday and the farm was completely destroyed.

Mathivanan visited the place in the morning to assess the damage. Later, he sensed something amiss and cast aspersions on Govindhan. Along with his relatives, he began bludgeoning Govindhan, who in turn alerted his relatives. It soon became a full-fledged group clash.

Mathivanan then lodged a complaint with the Mimisal police station, following which the police filed cases against 10 persons. Police also took action on the petition lodged by Govindhan and arrested 10 others.
