4 SP Pattinam Cops Shifted to AR Wing

RAMANATHAPURAM: Four police personnel, including a special sub-inspector and three head constables of the SP Pattinam police station who were on duty during the custodial death were transferred to armed reserve wing here on Thursday.

The four cops, SSI Paramasivam, three head constables Dhanabalan, Iyyappan  and Duraikannan and two youth brigade members, Mahalingam and John Ravi, were reportedly present at the station when Kalidas, SI, shot the victim Syed Mohamed at the police station on Oct 14.

Velusamy, judge of the JM Court II, Ramanathapuram, after inspecting the body at the hospital along with a doctors visited the SP Pattinam police station on Thursday and conducted an inquiry with the cops.  The JM also conducted inquiries with three persons, including the victim’s brother Noor Mohamed on Friday. A source said, seven more persons, including the victim’s mother Syed Ali Fathima would be inquired on Oct 27.

Marx, national president of National Confederation of Human Rights Organisation, told Express that the six police personnel, including an SSI, were present at the time of the firing at the police station. A case should be registered against them as well and they should be suspended. But, the district police were trying to save them by transferring them, he charged. The six cops transferred will now come under the control of the SP.

Jawahirullah, MLA, Ramanathapuram said, the Manithaneya Makkal Katchi would would protest till SI Kalidas was arrested and demanded to register cases against all the six personnel who have been transferred.
