Thief Joins Mob in Hunt, Gets Thrashed

TIRUCHY: A would-be goat thief was nabbed by villagers at Gundoor on Saturday while trying to act like one of the people chasing the goat thieves.

Police said Murugan (28) of Ayyampatti village, near Gundoor was grazing his goats on a field. He noticed  two persons on motorbike trying to take away his goat and alerted the nearby people, who chased them. Seeing the crowd, the thieves abandoned their bike and fled. One of the thieves, who hid in a bush, started running with the villagers to catch his accomplice. He ran with the public and also pointed to a particular direction saying that two thieves had gone that way. However, one of the villagers identified the thief, who panicked and tried to run away. But the crowd caught and thrashed him severely. He was handed over to the police. He was identified as Ganesan of Keela Kalkandar Kottai and his accomplice, Nagaraj was from Ariyamangalam.
