The government-run Tamil Nadu Arasu Cable TV Corporation has entered into a memorandum of understanding with RailTel Corporation for providing broadband and internet services through local cable operators.

The department of Telecommunications under the Ministry of Communication and Information Technology granted the Unified License-ISP Category 'B' authorisation for offering the broadband and internet services.

As a pilot project through 35 local cable operators around 1,000 internet connections have been provided and the service quality is closely monitored, the policy note said.
