The CD Drive That Burned Itself Out

Express News Service

COIMBATORE/KOCHI:The 179 km long dramatic trip from Panampilly Nagar, Kochi, to Selvapuram in Coimbatore made on Thursday by a six-member team appointed by Justice G Sivarajan judicial commission to assist solar scam accused Biju Radhakrishnan in recovering evidence including the video tapes involving CM Oommen Chandy and other politicians, ended up in failure as no digital evidence related to scam was recovered.

Biju led the team comprising advocate R Harikumar, counsel of the solar commission, two policemen with the commission and three other policemen.  They returned after the futile search.

The team left from Kochi to Coimbatore in a police SUV around 3.45 pm, and reached the residence of Chandran, a goldsmith, to whom Biju is believed to have handed over the evidence, two-and-half years ago. Chandran’s wife Selvi is reportedly a relative of Biju. Initially, they denied to be in possession of any evidence, but later handed over a cover containing few documents - some receipts of Team Solar company, application forms and SIM cards. But it did not contain the CD which Biju claimed to be the tape of Saritha S Nair having conversation and physical relationship with CM and five others. After a petition filed by Biju, the commission restricted persons accompanying Biju from using their mobile phones and were asked to leave their phones at the commission office.

Earlier in the morning, when Biju appeared before the commission, Roshan Alexander, the government pleader, submitted that state has no objection in allowing Biju Radhakrishnan to bring the evidence with the assistance provided by the commission.
