Laptop Scam: HM and 3 PG Teachers Get Transfer Orders in Madurai

Express News Service

MADURAI: The Madurai Corporation on Saturday transferred a headmaster and three teachers of one of its schools for allegedly collecting money from students for the government’s free laptops.

Commissioner S Shanthi (In Charge) issued orders transferring the headmaster, R Mallika and three PG assistants of E V R Corporation Higher Secondary School to other schools.

According to the students, the teachers had demanded `910 for each laptop.

Following complaints from parents, Deputy Commissioner Shanthi and Chief Education officer (in charge) S Natarajan conducted an inquiry with students on Friday and transferred the teachers and headmaster concerned.

However, a few teachers have claimed that they have collected money only to pay the salary for PTA teachers.

“With the sanctioned strength of 100 teachers, it is not possible to teach 3,500 students. Hence, Parent Teachers Association (PTA) appointed 20 teachers and we collect money for paying them their salaries,” a teacher claimed.

EVR Girls’ HSS has a strength of nearly 3,500 students, the highest among corporation schools.
