Express News Service

CHENNAI: A businessman has alleged that nearly Rs 1 lakh in cash that he had kept in the petrol tank cover on his motorcycle went missing when he left it in the custody of traffic police personnel during a vehicle check on Saturday.

Police sources said Annamalai, of Theradi Street, Thiruvottriyur, lodged the complaint at New Washermenpet police station on Sunday. He claimed that he was stopped by traffic police near Washermenpet tollgate on Saturday night. As he was not wearing a helmet, he told the police that he had a helmet at home and also the receipt.

“He says that he was allowed to take the bike after he produced the helmet and receipt. When he checked, he realised that Rs 1 lakh in cash kept in the bike missing and began asking the police,” said a source.
