Farmers' Plea for Traffic Police Wing

Express News Service

COIMBATORE: The Tamil Nadu Farmers' Association has urged the district police to create traffic police wings in Karumathamapatty, Annur and Sulur police stations to manage traffic movement in these areas effectively.

In a petition to district Superintendent of Police M Sudhakar, the association’s district president S Palanisamy said, “Many road accidents are taking place on Tiruchy Road at Sulur. The traffic signals do not function most of the time and even if they do, the motorists are not obeying the signals. This leads to lots of road accidents and loss of human lives.”

So, he urged the Coimbatore district police to station a traffic constable at the by-pass junction to manage the traffic flow on the road.

“Due to the lack of a police station at Semmancherry, the public have to reach Sulur police station to file a complaint. In the rural parts of the district, illegal sand mining is rampant. When social activists question such activities, quarrels arise between them and the sand mafia. The district police should take appropriate action to avoid such incidents and stop illegal sand mining,” Palanisamy added in his petition.

He further stated, “A traffic police wing should be created in Karumathamapatti, Annur and Sulur police station to ensure that the traffic flow in these areas is smooth. A women police station should be opened in Karumathampatti sub division. The two-wheelers and four-wheelers seized from the offenders involved in criminal activities should be auctioned.”
