Wounded Jumbo Back on its Feet after Treatment

Express News Service

COIMBATORE:A 25-year-old tusker, that was treated for an injury on its hind leg by forest veterinarians, was found walking briskly into the forest near Sigur in Nilgiris district on Wednesday. Forest staff have been asked to monitor the animal continuously as the medicine will be effective up to 72 hours.

A team of anti-poaching watchers tracked the jumbo near Jagli Kadu on Wednesday morning.

The elephant was barely able to walk but after a team of veterinarians treated its wound on Tuesday afternoon, it was found walking in a brisk pace, sources said.

A deep injury was found on the elephant's left hind leg, possibly caused by a sharp bottle or bamboo shoot. Doctors cleared the pus on the wound and bandaged it with medicines to prevent infection and soil entering the wound.
