Traffic Cop Nabbed for Mowing Down 2 Bikers

VELLORE: A traffic police inspector attached to the Gudiyattam traffic wing was arrested for running over two persons near Natrampalli four days ago.

Sources said that the official, Ravi, was driving his car to Bengaluru when the two construction were mowed down. The official was slated to retire next month.

Sources said that Raju (24) and Suresh (24), construction workers from Ammaiappan Nagar near Jolarpet, were returning to their village on a two-wheeler from Nayanacheru village.

While their vehicle was crossing a road junction near Athurkuppam near Natrampalli, they were hit by a Bengaluru-bound car Vellore on the night of November 24.

The car did not stop to help the injured and sped past some onlookers, who managed to note down its registration number.

The Natrampalli police registered a case and started a probe based on the lead provided by the onlookers. Investigations revealed that the car belonged to traffic inspector Ravi, who was attached to the Gudiyattam town police station.

On being grilled, Ravi reportedly confessed to have run over the two persons. Later, he was arrested and remanded in custody. Ravi is slated to retire next month, sources added.
