MADURAI: A cheating case filed against the brother of former Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker K Kalimuthu has been transferred from Theni to Madurai city.

According to police, P Kalimuthu of Bodinayakanur had lodged a complaint in 2012 alleging that he was cheated of RS 2.4 lakh with the promise of a job for his son in Madurai Kamaraj University. In his complaint, Kalimuthu claimed that he had paid RS 3.4 lakhs to K Nallathambi, brother of former Speaker K Kalimuthu who died in 2006, for securing the job.

As the job was not arranged, Kalimuthu demanded the money back from Nallathambi, who is an advocate. But Nallathambi refused and allegedly threatened him. After repeated follow up, he returned RS 1 lakh to Kalimuthu. Based on Kalimuthu’s complaint, Theni police registered a cheating case against Nallathambi on September 14 , 2012.

During investigation, police reportedly found out that the money was handed over to Nallathambi at the circuit house in Madurai and therefore the case has now been transferred to the central crime branch of Madurai city police.
