MADURAI: The raids at the residence of Tamil Nadu chief secretary P Rama Mohana Rao, the first official in that rank to face trouble from Income Tax Department, came following information in this regard, said Union minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

She, however, hastened to deny any other motives behind the move, underplaying it as a routine matter.

"Do not assume any (hidden) idea behind the raid being conducted at the residence of the chief secretary, which is just routine investigations. I would not comment further on it," she told the media at Madurai airport on Wednesday.

It is unwarranted to believe that the Enforcement Directorate, a central government agency, would conduct raids only at some businessmen's or officials' premises; such raids could be conducted at anybody's house, she added.
