CHENNAI:  Former union health minister and PMK’s youth wing leader Anbumani Ramadoss on Friday charged that it was the DMK government that granted permission for the controversial SVS Medical College near Kallakurichi in Villupuram district, where three girl students were found dead under suspicious circumstances.

While PMK leader S Ramadoss had initially blamed the AIADMK government earlier, Anbumani who had earlier stated that the clearing of Homeopathy medical colleges was under former Union Minister of State Panabaka Lakshmi on Friday denied role for the Centre in the process.

The Indian Medical Committee would inspect a new college which had sought permission and submit a report to the Union Health ministry. But when it comes to Homeopathy Medical College, the report would be submitted to the Ayush department and the Centre had no role in granting permission to such colleges. Such colleges could get a No Objection Certificate from the State government to start its functioning and later seek affiliation with the Tamil Nadu MGR Medical University, which would decide after an inspection by a team of university officials, Anbumani said.

It was the DMK government which granted permission to the SVS Medical College in 2008, he alleged.
