Jayalalithaa names four nominees including SRB for RS polls

CHENNAI: Chief Minister and AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalithaa on Wednesday announced four nominees for the biennial elections to six Rajya Sabha seats in Tamil Nadu. 

Already, the DMK has fielded RS Bharathi and TKS Elangovan as their nominees. As the number of vacancies and the number of nominees are in equal number, all these six are likely to be elected without conducting election. If any more nominee files papers in the coming days, election will be held on June 11.

The AIADMK nominees are: R Vaithilingam, secretary, AIADMK’s Thanjavur south district, sitting Rajya Sabha MP, A Navaneethakrishnan, A Vijayakumar, joint secretary, advocates wing, AIADMK’s Kanyakumari district unit and former Union Minister SR Balasubramanian.
