UAV-like object spotted flying near Kudankulam as Modi, Putin prep for summit

People noticed the drone-like object flying at an altitude of 150-200 m over an inland area near Swamithoppe and adjoining villages.

NAGERCOIL: A flying object looking like an unmanned aerial vehicle [UAV] had the administration and police in a tizzy after it was reported flying over inland villages in south coastal Tamil Nadu last night.

Southern Tamil nadu is where the Kudankulam nuclear power plant is situated and Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Russian President Vladimir Putin are to meet to finalise an agreement on units 5 and 6 of the plant in Goda today.

People noticed the drone-like object flying at an altitude of 150-200 m over an inland area near Swamithoppe and adjoining villages, some 14 km from Nagercoil, the biggest city in Kanniyakumari district.

These villages are some 15 km from the Kudankulam nuclear power plant.

The villagers alerted a Marine Police unit attached to the Coastal Security Group of the Tamil Nadu police and officers rushed to the area and located the object at around 9.30 pm last night, Oct. 14, near Swamithoppe.
