CM orders creation of five new taluks

CHENNAI: Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Friday directed that five more taluks be created in various parts of the State. This would take the number of taluks to 290. The new taluks would be created spending `4 crore.

At present, the State has 32 districts, 85 divisions, 285 taluks, 1,188 firkas and 16,682 revenue villages. She also allotted `48.39 crore for new buildings in 16 taluks.

The Chief Minister, in a statement, said a new taluk would be created with Srimushnam as its headquarters, by bifurcating Kattumannarkoil taluk. Similarly, Udayarpalayam taluk would be split and a new taluk formed with Andimadam as headquarters. 

Needamangalam taluk would be split and a new taluk would be formed with Koothanallur as headquarters while Tirupathur taluk would be split and a new taluk would have Singampunari as its headquarters. Further, a new taluk would be formed with Kayathar as its headquarters by restructuring Kovilpatti and Ottapidaram taluks. She said new buildings would be built for 16 taluks offices.

In the last five years, new buildings for Revenue department offices were built spending `356 crore. For streamlining the revenue administration, 65 new taluks and nine new revenue divisions were created.
