CHENNAI: Scotching rumours that Health Minister C Vijaya Basker may be dropped from the State Cabinet following the recent IT searches, AIADMK (Amma) deputy general secretary T T V Dhinakaran on Thursday said, “These reports are mere rumours. He was summoned for enquiries and he had attended them. That is all.”
Dhinakaran said this while answering media queries, after he paid homage to Venkat, a party cadre who died in a road accident while returning from election works a few days ago.
Condoling the death, he said `three lakh will be given to the family of the deceased as assistance.
Responding to a statement of Deputy Leader of Opposition, Durai Murugan that RK Nagar would not face any by-election but would face general election straight away in January, Dhinakaran said, “I don’t know when Durai Murugan became an astrologer. Moreover, the DMK always expects elections and there is nothing new in this.”
Asked about the demand of opposition leaders that he should be disqualified from contesting elections, Dhinakaran said, “Disqualification is not something the opposition parties decide. Whenever the by-election for RK Nagar is held, I will be the party candidate and I will win the election with a huge margin.”
On the fasting of Tirupur (South) MLA S Gunasekaran to press a charter of demands, Dhinakaran said he had spoken to Chief Minister ‘Edappadi’ K Palaniswami about this and he would take care of the issue.
