CHENNAI: The Madras High Court has directed the Joint Registrar and additional private secretary to the Chief Justice, A. Abdul Baquar to visit, photograph and submit a report on the plight of hawkers in areas in and around the NSC Bose road and eateries near Raja Annamalai Mandram.
The division bench comprising Chief Justice Indira Banerjee and Justice M Sundar gave the directive and posted to August 18 the further hearing of the petition. The petition was filed by social activist Traffic Ramaswamy who said that there were violations by authorities of the positive directions given by the court on October 13, 2015.
Ramaswamy reportedly produced 16 photos before the court, which allegedly showed that the authorities had not complied with the directions. In the pictures, he showed how hawkers had re-established themselves in many parts of the road. This claim was denied by the Additional Advocate General, C Manishankar, the bench said.
