RK Nagar bypoll: Will not resign as president of Producers Council, says Vishal

In a press release, the actor said no laws prevent him from contesting polls even as he occupies the chair of the president of the council.

CHENNAI: Kollywood actor Vishal, who filed his nomination for the RK Nagar bypoll on Monday, said he will not resign as the president of Tamil Film Producers Council after some members lead by director Cheran staged a sit-in demanding the same yesterday.

In a press release, the actor said no laws prevent him from contesting polls even as he occupies the chair of the president of the council.

"It is my personal decision and I will not succumb to Cheran's demands," he said.

Vishal who claims to have respect for Cheran, a senior director alleged that Cheran was indulging in cheap publicity and action will be taken against him if he does not stop his protest.

Around ten members from the Producers Council staged an all-night sit in at the Producers Council office near Gemini flyover on Monday demanding Vishal’s resignation.

When the New Indian Express contacted Cheran, he said: “Many more protesters will join the fray if Vishal doesn't resign".

Meanwhile, Gnanvel Raja, the secretary of the Producers Council resigned from his post stating personal reasons.
