NAGERCOIL/ TIRUNELVELI: Grief coupled with anger of fishermen in Thoothoor in Kanniyakumari spilled onto Tirunelveli on Sunday. On Saturday, the fishers started indefinite sit-in protest at Chinnathurai coastal village near Thoothoor, and the stir saw the number of protestors growing.
Music director turned actor G V Prakash met the protestors at Chinnathurai. He also met the people of Muttom coastal village. Muttom parish priest and Vicar Forane V Pascalips told Express that the residents of the coastal area staged a protest by standing in the sea for an hour.
Protests were held in the sea at Rajakamangalam Thurai near Nagercoil. Anti nuclear activist S P Udayakumar also participated in the protest at Chinnathurai.
A protestor from Chinnathurai said even those from far off coastal hamlets such as Pallam came to take part in the protest.
Fishermen and women staged a demonstration on the streets of Idinthakarai village in Tirunelveli district. Meanwhile, fishers also staged protest in the sea on Koothenkuzhy costal village in the district. The protest was held for an hour.
