One person died and nine got injured in a cracker blast on the premises of a temple near Pochampalli on Saturday night.

KRISHNAGIRI: One person died and nine got injured in a cracker blast on the premises of a temple near Pochampalli on Saturday night.

Sources said some villagers of A Mottur were carrying out a procession of Lord Vediyappan on the new moon day when spark from the burning crackers fell on the storehouse inside Lord Ganesan Temple, where crackers were stocked. What followed was a big blast with the roof of the temple collapsing on the devotees inside.

The deceased was identified as M Mariyappan (55) of Murugampatti, who died instantly.
Nine others who got injured in the blast were rushed to Pochampalli Government Hospital.
On information, fire service and rescue team reached the spot and kicked off rescue operation. A police team headed by Bargur deputy superintendent Bhaskaran has begun probe into the incident.
