CHENNAI: The O Panneerselvam-led rebel camp in AIADMK has decided to field veteran leader and former minister E Madhusudanan in the high voltage by-election scheduled for April 12 at R K Nagar Assembly constituency.

Leader of the rebels and former Chief Minister O Panneerselvam made the announcement on Thursday evening after a meeting of the Parliamentary Board, held at his official residence on Greenways Road.

"We have decided to field presidium chairman E Madhusudanan in RK Nagar which goes to polls on April 12," Panneerselvam told reporters.

The poll arena seems to be getting electrified with the entry of Madhusudanan who had won the polls in the same segment in 1991. He had received 66,710 votes and had won by a margin of 24,952 against V Rajasekaran (41,758) of Janata Dal.

Sounding confident, Madhusudanan, who sided with O Panneerselvam after February 7 revolt against Sasikala, said, "I will definitely win the polls by securing more votes than TTV Dinakaran.”

The senior leader also said he would contest in two leaves symbol.

Madhusudanan had served as the minister for handlooms in the 1991-96 cabinet of late chief minister Jayalalithaa.
