Gangai Amaran is BJP nominee in RK Nagar

Speaking to mediapersons, Gangai Amaran expressed confidence that he would win the by-election since people were longing for a change.

CHENNAI: The BJP on Friday fielded well known music director, lyricist, singer and film director, Gangai Amaran (69),  in the by-election to RK Nagar Assembly constituency.

He is the younger brother of maestro Ilayaraja and father of film director Venkat Prabhu and actor Premji Amaren. He had composed music for more than 50 films and written screenplay for many films.

Speaking to mediapersons, Gangai Amaran expressed confidence that he would win the by-election since people were longing for a change. Thanking the party high command for fielding him, he said the plan for his campaign and other things would be announced by the party later. 

Gangai Amaran joined the BJP on December 20,2014 in the presence party president Amit Shah, at a public meeting in Chennai. But, he had not involved himself actively in party works. In November 2015, Amaran was appointed as the patron of party’s Arts Wing.
