CHENNAI: Comedy actor N Santhanam, who feared arrest on charges of assaulting a realtor, moved the Madras High Court on Tuesday seeking anticipatory bail.

According to Santhanam, he gave money for constructing a building to one Shanmugasundaram. The actor had planned to build a mall at Kunrathur for which he gave Rs 3 crore to Shanmugasundaram, at his office at Valasarawakkam. But the realtor neither started the construction work nor returned the money to him, despite repeated reminders.

On October 9, Shanmugasundaram invited the petitioner over phone for settlement talks. When the talks were on, suddenly, Shanmugasundaram and his associates attacked him and caused injuries to him, the actor alleged.

The petitioner lodged a complaint against Shanmugasundaram and his associates before the Valasarawakkam police.

To escape from his liability, Shanmugasundaram also filed a counter-complaint against him. The police registered a case against the petitioner for offences under sections 324 (voluntarily causing hurt), 294 b (recites or utters any obscene words or songs near public place) and 506(1) (punishment for criminal intimidation) IPC. Hence, the present application contending that he was innocent and that a false case has been registered against him.

According to Shanmugasundaram’s complaint, Santhanam thrashed him with his hands and also threatened him with dire consequences.
