TIRUCHY: They win big at any event they take part in and register their institution’s name widely. Shanmugha Arts, Science, Technology & Research Academy (SASTRA) University of Thanjavur, has once again lifted the overall trophy for the 19th consecutive time in 21 years at ‘Festember’, an annual student-run cultural festival of National Institute of Technology-Tiruchy (NIT-T).

With over 40 years of heritage, Festember has grown to become one of the largest festivals of India. Each year, the cultural event brings a palette of exciting events, interesting workshops, impactful guest lectures and mind-blowing concerts. The 43rd edition of Festember was hosted from September 21 to 24 at NIT-T. As this year’s event was based on ‘Orient’ theme, premises of the institute became all things East Asian, celebrating art, food, fashion and entities of that region.

SASTRA University had the maximum score at this year’s Festember. Over 35 prominent institutes like IITs and IIMs took part in the cultural event. Shreyas Krishna, the cultural coordinator of SASTRA, said about 120 law and engineering students from the university took part in different programmes at the event. When asked about how SASTRA retains its overall excellence in Festember for over a period of time, Krishna said participants from the university commenced their practice sessions much before the announcement of the event date, which has been ingrained for over a decade to excel in all cultural events.
SASTRA Univ won Ilayaraja Rolling Trophy, Dumb Charades, Rohchak Matrana, Potpourri and ‘What’s the good word?’.

Famous personalities, namely film critic Baradwaj Rangan, Femina Miss India Tamil Nadu 2017 Sherlin Seth, Indian film composer Amit Trivedi and Hollywood VFX Supervisor Michael Karp gave guest lectures at the four-day event. The final day concluded with a delightful performance by Amit Trivedi and troupe of Bollywood fame.
