MADURAI: The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court has quashed an order of Teachers Recruitment Board (TRB) cancelling the direct recruitment of lecturers in government polytechnic colleges 2017-18.
Ilamathi, a candidate from Sivaganga approached the court stating that TRB notified the examination for direct recruitment of lecturers in government polytechnic colleges 2017-18 to fill 1058 vacancies and conducted a written exam on September 16 and the results were declared on November 7, 2017.
Based on several complaints of malpractices in answer sheets, Chennai police registered a case and arrested seven persons. Following this, the higher education department issued a notification and cancelled the exam and issued a notice for conducting the exam afresh in August 2018.
Challenging this, the petitioner sought for a directive to quash the order of TRB cancelling the examination.When the case came up for hearing before Justice G R Swaminathan, TRB counsel filed a counter stating that no malpractice was found during the examination and also during the scanning of OMR answer sheets. It was found there were irregularities only during assessment which was done by a private firm. Hence, based on complaints from candidates, the examination was cancelled and, a fresh examination was called for.
Recording it, Justice Swaminathan observed that it was clear there was no malpractice during the course of examination or in the question paper. It was found in the enquiry that the irregularities were only during assessment of marks done by a private firm. Hence, he said the TRB can revalue the answer sheets of the doubtful candidates. Further, he quashed TRB’s order cancelling the examination.
