CHENNAI: The Madras HC rejected a plea to quash a resolution passed at the 57th meet of Equivalence Committee of TN Public Service Commission, dated December 26, 2017, and direct it to issue an Equivalence Certificate to the effect that  BE Production Engineering (Sandwich) course is equivalent to Mechanical Engineering course for purpose of employment.

The court cannot sit in appeal over the decision of the expert body, as the decision of the expert body was duly considered by the Equivalence Committee of the TNPSC and only thereafter, the committee had reached the conclusion that both courses were not equivalent, Justice S Vaidyanathan pointed out.

Thus, the status of equivalence had to be decided only by the expert body, that too, on technical and academic matters and rightly, relying on the expert opinion, the judge added.
The judge was dismissing a petition from A P Anand recently.
