CHENNAI: At last, the Dr Ambedkar government law college in Chennai has been shifted to two premises - Pudupakkam in Kancheepuram district and Pattaraiperumpudur in Tiruvallur district. The new classrooms, administrative buildings etc. have been declared open by Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami on Monday, through the video conferencing facility at the Secretariat.
The shifting of this college was strongly opposed by the students and a fresh petition challenging the shifting of the college is pending before the Madras High Court The premises at Pudupakkam accommodates 1,205 students who study five-year law courses and the classrooms and other buildings have come up in 6.30 acres of land at a cost of Rs 57.41 crore.
Similarly, the premises at Pattaraiperumpudur accommodate 1,123 students who study three-year law courses. The classrooms etc. have come up in 20 hectare of land at a cost of `60.37 crore.An official release here said the shifting of premises has taken place in accordance with the recommendation of the inquiry commission headed by Justice P Shanmugam and to execute the orders of the Madras High Court.
