PUDUKKOTTAI: A couple had to postpone their son’s wedding because he was down with dengue. So they conducted his younger brother’s ear-piercing ceremony instead as many invitees had already arrived and even food was prepared.

V Pandian (27) of Pallavarayanpathai got engaged to P Jeevitha (19) of Karambakudi two months ago and they were slated marry at a marriage hall in Pudhupatti on Sunday.

Pandian, however, was diagnosed with dengue and admitted to a private hospital in Tiruchy. Hoping that he would be alright by the wedding date, his parents went ahead and made all arrangements for the wedding.

However, when the parents requested the doctors to discharge Pandian for his wedding, they refused to oblige, citing his health condition.

Meanwhile, relatives and friends had arrived for the wedding. To avoid disappointing the attendees and to make use of the arrangements, the parents turned the wedding into an ear-piercing ceremony for Pandian’s younger brother.
